Angel of Despair and Grace

In dialogo con l’angelo della disperazione e della grazia, che osserva dall’alto i nostri affanni e ci ricorda che la bellezza continuerebbe ad esistere anche se non ci fosse nessuno a vederla. «Even when you’re broken down, / the world still retain its quiet grace».

Angel of Despair and Grace

The Angel came to visit me today,
said, open up, the storm is gone away.
Warm your hands, the sun is kind,
but don’t forget — it changes its mind.

You have done so much, for so little to show,
no one will know the weight you know.
The pain of morning, the silent climb,
to see the sun for one more time.

You are not better, you are not worse,
just another soul under this curse.
I hear your thoughts, I hear your sighs
but I can’t do nothing for your lives.

I came to say what you already know:
the storm is over, but it will return.

I asked the Angel, “but then why?”
He smiled at me, then closed his eyes. He said:

“Even when you’re broken down,
when all you love has left the ground,
the world still retain its quiet grace —
a cat’s slow step, the ocean space
the sunlight shining on the waves,
the wind that moves through forest leaves”.

The quiet grace…
The quiet grace…
The quiet grace…

Annunciazione

Nella quiete di un mattino qualunque, l’angelo porta il suo messaggio
(Beato Angelico, Annunciazione, 1440 circa, convento di San Marco a Firenze).
